Classic Mechanics is a configurable datapack that brings back selectable features, tweaks, and mechanics from Minecraft’s earlier eras, including pre-classic, beta, alpha, early release, snapshots, and April Fools versions. Its 264 modules cover a broad range of gameplay and presentation changes, from instant attacks and older armor or tool behavior to classic mob drops, altered spawning, old particles and sounds, and visual touches such as void fog and the dragon’s purple boss bar. Specific examples include TNT that can be lit by punching, nightmares that spawn mobs when players sleep in dark spaces, boats that crash at high speed into solid blocks, and classic sponges that drain water across a 5-by-5-by-5 area. Other modules restore older mob behaviors and appearances, such as land-dwelling squids, tameable ocelots that become cats, and killer rabbits with their original rare chance to appear. Every module is disabled by default and can be enabled or configured individually, while presets let players turn on groups of modules at once; the options interface also shows module status and the historical versions associated with each feature. The project is designed to avoid changing world and terrain generation, helping it work alongside other datapacks.
Written from Modrinth . How we write it
Does not change the game's code directly.
Adds 1 dimension: Cm Utils; 4 enchantments: Blockhit, Giant Damage, Old Enderman Damage and Xptest; 124 advancements and 201 loot tables.
Counted from the names and data files in the mod, so the list may not be complete.
Replaces 230 of vanilla Minecraft's loot tables and 6 enchantments.
No harmful code found
We checked its files and read their code, without running it.
Why we show this: a mod runs on your computer like any program, so harmful code in it can take your accounts or files. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: malware means no grade, and a Warning in a latest file for a recent Minecraft version lowers it.
We found nothing it sends
We read its code without running it: it contacts no web address while you play.
Why we show this: a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
No sign so far that AI was used to make it
We looked for AI tools in its texts, files and images and found none.
We have not read its code history yet.
No sign of AI in the game
We found no AI service, AI library or AI model file in its code.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.
Point at or tap a version to see its loaders.
Modpacks that include Classic Mechanics in at least one of their versions, most downloaded first.
The newest file for each Minecraft version and loader. The files for recent versions come first. Recent versions: those released in the last 2 years, plus 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, among the most played in modpacks.
In the last 2 years, 8 releases needed a quick fix: a new release within 3 days to fix a problem. This lowers the grade by 5 points.
