CRYPTID is a gritty horror mod with a Doom-inspired aesthetic, uncanny monster designs, and an atmosphere built around making the world feel hostile and unpredictable. It adds dozens of cryptids, more than 50 events, and over 20 structures, with hidden lore scattered through achievements, notes, chat messages, and rare encounters. Its creatures behave in distinct ways: Shy bursts when approached and watched, Mimics disguise themselves as blocks before attacking, Living Obelisks turn to stone by day and move at night, and the Curator charges through the landscape while corrupting blocks. Other threats include the underground-burrowing Lesser Bone Worm, the player-dragging Phantom Undertow and Barnacle, the stalking Monmouth, and the towering, lethal Harrow. Cryptids and events respond to Harmony, a world-state measure influenced by player behavior and proximity to danger: keeping away from Hearts and entities can reduce events, while provoking them brings greater risk. A Dilapidated Radio helps players read Harmony and its rate of change, track nearby cryptids, detect paranormal activity, and monitor Hearts and events, though some entities can temporarily disrupt its signal. Survival is deliberately precarious: players have limited lives, while special items can be found or crafted from recipes recovered on damaged paper, and the radio and hidden hints provide guidance for navigating the threats. The required resource pack supplies the mod's models and screen effects, complementing its distinctive visuals and horror presentation.
Written from Modrinth . How we write it
Does not change the game's code directly.
Adds 5 biomes, 1 dimension, 3 structures, 10 recipes, 23 advancements and 1 loot table.
Counted from the names and data files in the mod, so the list may not be complete.
Replaces 12 of vanilla Minecraft's world generation files.
No harmful code found
We checked its files and read their code, without running it.
Why we show this: a mod runs on your computer like any program, so harmful code in it can take your accounts or files. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: malware means no grade, and a Warning in a latest file for a recent Minecraft version lowers it.
We found nothing it sends
We read its code without running it: it contacts no web address while you play.
Why we show this: a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
No sign so far that AI was used to make it
We looked for AI tools in its texts, files and images and found none.
We have not read its code history yet.
No sign of AI in the game
We found no AI service, AI library or AI model file in its code.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.

Modpacks that include CRYPTID in at least one of their versions, most downloaded first.
The newest file for each Minecraft version and loader. The files for recent versions come first. Recent versions: those released in the last 2 years, plus 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, among the most played in modpacks.
In the last 2 years, 2 releases needed a quick fix: a new release within 3 days to fix a problem. This lowers the grade by 1 point.
