About
From the Ground Up adds a research system that gates crafting of vanilla items behind technologies players discover through experimentation. Players combine up to three items in the Idea Table to produce idea parchment, then use the Research Table to solve either a match puzzle, which asks for particular items with sometimes-vague hints, or a connecting puzzle, which links two items through three intermediate items. Scanning blocks with a magnifying glass placed in the Research Table can clarify hints in match puzzles, and completing research turns research parchment into a researched technology. The Research Book tracks researched and available technologies, shows which items and blocks each technology unlocks, and lets players inspect their recipes. Modpack creators can extend the system with custom technologies, research puzzles, unlocks, and technology trees, using JSON files or CraftTweaker support where available. Technologies can also connect with Game Stages to require or award stages, and with Immersive Engineering to gate multiblock structures.
