Journey Beyond the Abyss is a story-driven, semi-hardcore ocean-survival modpack that begins with the player stranded on a sandbar beside a strange platform and a seemingly bottomless trench. Exploration reveals islands, dungeons, underwater cities, ghost ships, custom dimensions that take players deeper into the Abyss, and secrets woven into the story. Progression is organized into 13 chapters and more than 500 quests, using Game Stages and custom NPCs to guide players through its narrative and unlock additional mods and recipes. Thousands of altered recipes make crafting increasingly complex, while puzzle-like milestones encourage players to explore beyond the quest book for alternative ways to obtain resources. The world grows more dangerous as chapters advance, with new naturally spawning mobs and powerful monsters, alongside survival pressures such as temperature, weight, infections, and disease. The pack adds exclusive blocks, fluids, and items, as well as custom multiblock structures with their own recipes, custom dungeons and bosses, and space exploration featuring rocket-built worlds, spaceships, and locations such as a moon base and a volcanic planet. Limited lives are an optional hardcore setting, and immersive trains and monorails provide a way to travel long distances.
Written from CurseForge . How we write it
The mods of its newest release (Minecraft 1.12.2 · Forge, 24 Aug 2026). Each check result is for the latest files of that mod, which may not be the version in this pack.
Not checked yet
We have not checked its mods yet.
Why we show this: a modpack installs the files of its mods, and each mod runs on your computer like any program. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: a modpack has no grade of its own, and each mod's result counts in that mod's grade.
Its mods are not read yet
We have not read the code of its mods yet.
Why we show this: a modpack runs the code of its mods, and a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
No sign so far that AI was used to make the pack itself
We looked for AI tools in its texts and found none.
We have not read its files and images yet.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.
