About
ViaBackwards Plus is a vanilla resource pack that helps older clients on ViaBackwards-enabled servers recognize newer items by showing their corresponding icons and models. When ViaBackwards maps a new item to an older item the client understands, the pack uses the hidden component data to display the newer item’s appearance instead; for example, a Copper Spear mapped to an Iron Sword can appear as a Copper Spear. It updates 2D inventory icons and in-hand 3D models, but does not alter blocks or entities after they are placed in the world. The pack works without third-party mods and can be used alongside other resource packs, drawing on their item models and textures when those packs are placed above it. For servers, it can be configured as a server resource pack so legacy players can receive the updated item appearances when they join.
