Mist is a shaderpack that rebuilds Minecraft’s lighting around a deferred HDR pipeline, aiming for physically motivated light and a cinematic look. It adds colored screen-space indirect lighting, distance-softening shadows, and volumetric sun rays that receive a stronger, water-tinted treatment underwater. Water uses procedural moving waves, sky and screen-space reflections, refraction, and depth-aware views of shallow surfaces. Underwater, the shader changes the scene with distance-based color absorption and haze, animated seabed caustics, drifting marine snow, screen wobble, and a glowing Snell window. The sky features raymarched, self-shadowing volumetric clouds, atmospheric scattering, and distance-aware aerial perspective, with lighting and color shifting smoothly through dawn and dusk. Metallic surfaces receive hue-tinted reflections, while adaptive exposure and AgX tonemapping help transitions between dark caves and bright daylight feel gradual. In-menu settings let players adjust lighting, global illumination, shadows, atmosphere and clouds, post-processing, water reflections and waves, and underwater effects such as caustics and marine snow.
Written from Modrinth . How we write it
Changes how the game looks: 31 shader programs, the dimensions are not stated in the pack. Draws its own shadows, water, sky, clouds and weather.
No harmful code found
We checked what is inside its files, without opening them in the game.
Why we show this: a shader cannot run programs, but its file can hide one. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: malware means no grade.
Sends nothing
A shader has no code that can connect to the internet, so it cannot send anything about you.
No sign that AI was used to make it
We looked for AI tools in its texts, files and images and found none.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.
