Chat with villagers, build friendships, and take on their quests.
28.5 of the 61 points that apply = 47 out of 100. The points above are rounded to whole numbers.
Speaking Villagers adds AI-powered conversations to Minecraft villagers, letting players chat with them by text or, optionally, through microphone speech recognition. Villagers respond in context to the player's equipment and condition, the biome, weather, time, nearby mobs and structures, and their friendship or reputation, while more than 8,000 personality combinations help distinguish individual characters. Players can build friendships with villagers, who can follow them more reliably, and take on procedurally generated quests, including 176 gather quests with 210 profession-based rewards. Villagers can pick up player-dropped gifts, comment on them, and drop gifted items if they die; they also retain configurable memories of past conversations. The mod offers 23 English, German, and multilingual voices, and its settings let players adjust speech, memory, language preferences, awareness, and other options; AI responses use a player-provided Mistral or OpenAI API key. Text-to-speech and voice recognition have Windows-specific requirements, and voice recognition requires additional setup.
Written from Modrinth . How we write it
Changes the game's code in 1 area: Mobs and their behaviorChanges 1 game code file in this area: mobs, animals, villagers, projectiles and how they move and act..
Adds no new blocks, items or other content.
Keeps all of vanilla Minecraft's textures, models and sounds.
No harmful code found in the parts we could check
We checked its files and read their code, without running it.
One of its files for recent versions cannot be checked: its author does not let other sites download it from CurseForge.
Why we show this: a mod runs on your computer like any program, so harmful code in it can take your accounts or files. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: malware means no grade, and a Warning in a latest file for a recent Minecraft version lowers it.
api.mistral.ai api.openai.comSends data we could not identify
Sent to an address built while the game runs.
We found this in its code, read without running it.
We have read the code of 3 of its 4 files for recent versions.
It can record from your microphone. See Security
Why we show this: a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
The author writes that AI was used
ChatGPT is named in the images in its files.
Can use AI in the game
Can send the text you write to Mistral and OpenAI (you provide your own key).
We found this in its code, read without running it.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.

Modpacks that include Speaking Villagers - ChatGPT and TTS in at least one of their versions, most downloaded first.
The newest file for each Minecraft version and loader. The files for recent versions come first. Recent versions: those released in the last 2 years, plus 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, among the most played in modpacks.
In the last 2 years, 2 releases needed a quick fix: a new release within 3 days to fix a problem. This counts in the grade, but it is too few to lose points.
