About
Xannosz's Better Minecarts adds controllable locomotives and linked trains to Minecraft without replacing the standard rail system. Its three locomotive types have distinct power systems: electric engines run on stored energy replenished by powered rails, steam engines use water and combustible fuel, and diesel engines use biodiesel or configurable combustion fuels. Locomotives offer speed control, stopping, lamps and audible signals, with a steam whistle or electric bell; players can also change routes without stopping and send redstone signals when passing signal rails. The steam engine has an idle state that keeps it running while stopped, and can exchange water buckets, fuel and empty buckets with hoppers. A crowbar lets players couple, uncouple and reverse the order of minecarts in a train, while locomotives can be placed on rails by dispensers. Players can rename minecarts, toggle the display of their names and recolor locomotives or other carts with dyes. The mod also adds signal rails, crossed rails and dead ends, and a signal rail can be used with a detector rail to build an automatic railway switch. Moving locomotives can load their current chunk and run without a player, a behavior that can be disabled in configuration; configurable fuel lists and locomotive fall explosions are also supported.
