About
Joy of Painting Neo lets players make a blank canvas and palette, mix colours, create their own pictures in an editor, and hang the finished paintings on walls or easels. Paintings are blocks rather than hanging entities, and larger canvases span multiple blocks, improving placement and avoiding the performance burden of large numbers of painting entities. Players can create small, long, tall, and large glass paintings whose unpainted pixels remain transparent, and paint the sides of regular or glass canvases as frames. When enabled, painting uses a separate dye charge for each of the 16 basic palette colours; painting spends charge according to the colours and pixels used, and Creative mode does not consume paint. Exploration can yield palettes and easels in village cartographer houses and large canvases in woodland mansions, while cartographers trade canvases and easels and wandering traders offer palettes. An advancement branch guides players from crafting a palette to obtaining a canvas and setting up an easel. Signed paintings can be protected by waxing them with honeycomb, preventing them from being edited and helping preserve artwork on shared servers. Server settings let administrators control features such as dye costs, trades, and access to the painting-import command.
