Shimmer is a rendering-focused mod that adds configurable colored lighting and bloom, extending Minecraft’s visuals rather than adding new gameplay content. Bloom can be applied to selected blocks, fluids, particles, and models, with examples including glowstone, lit redstone lamps, lava, and flame particles; resource packs can also mark textures or particles for the effect. Colored point lights can be configured for blocks such as sea lanterns and lit redstone lamps, while item lighting can make a held torch glow; these lights are visual effects and do not change Minecraft’s actual block-light level. The lighting and bloom settings can be supplied through JSON configuration or resource packs, and a graphical auxiliary screen provides color picking, radius controls, previews, applying settings, and exporting configuration. A Java API lets mod developers create more advanced lights, including state-dependent block lights and moving lights, and add bloom effects to rendered entities, block entities, and particles. Shimmer also includes seven built-in post-processing effects: Unreal-style and Unity-style bloom, warp, VHS, flicker, halftone, and dot screen. Colored lighting is capped at 2,048 lights, and support for colored light with Iris or Oculus shaders is generally unavailable while a shader is enabled.
Written from Modrinth . How we write it
Changes the game's code in 6 areas, as a library other mods build on: Rendering and graphicsChanges 13 game code files in this area: drawing mobs, items, particles and textures on screen., World renderingChanges 6 game code files in this area: drawing the terrain, sky, clouds and weather., Game coreChanges 2 game code files in this area: the main loop, lighting and other code the whole game uses., User interfaceChanges 1 game code file in this area: menus, screens, tooltips, the chat window and the in-game overlay., Mobs and their behaviorChanges 1 game code file in this area: mobs, animals, villagers, projectiles and how they move and act. and Blocks and fluidsChanges 1 game code file in this area: how blocks, fluids and redstone work..
Adds no new blocks, items or other content.
Keeps all of vanilla Minecraft's textures, models and sounds.
No harmful code found
We checked its files and read their code, without running it.
Why we show this: a mod runs on your computer like any program, so harmful code in it can take your accounts or files. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: malware means no grade, and a Warning in a latest file for a recent Minecraft version lowers it.
We found nothing it sends
We read its code without running it: it contacts no web address while you play.
Why we show this: a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
No sign that AI was used to make it
We looked for AI tools in its texts, files, images and code history and found none.
No sign of AI in the game
We found no AI service, AI library or AI model file in its code.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.
