About
Mimic adds a hostile, chest-disguised mob to make looting vanilla structures more dangerous and surprising. Mimics can rarely replace chests in igloos, strongholds, Nether fortresses, End cities, jungle temples, dungeons with monster spawners, desert pyramids, and woodland mansions. A disguised mimic stays idle until a player opens or attacks it, then strikes back; it can also wander in search of a chest to consume, taking its contents and snapping into place as the replacement chest. Players can use a Mimic Lock to loot one more safely, though it may try to escape whenever an item is taken, or use a Mimic Key to tame one as a following companion and portable storage that can sit or stand. A Mimic Heart can turn a chest into a mimic, which can receive random loot when summoned; its loot pool is configurable with a data pack. Mimics take extra damage from axes, and their custom animations include opening, closing, walking, running, locking, and damage reactions.
