Backwoods is a liminal-horror adventure mod about exploring a network of unsettling dimensions while managing escalating psychological pressure and hostile entities. Its central Backwoods dimension is an endless, foggy forest of wooden terrain, with Wood Plains, Thicket, and Deep Backwoods biomes; other realms include the yellow-fogged, oak-built Grain, the dense and dark Rotting, the time-stilled Still, the memory-mirroring Familiar, and Loss, a pale world that can pull players in after prolonged exposure. Exploration leads through distinctive places such as the Grain’s Splinter Nest, a vertical labyrinth of wooden towers, and its buried rooms and subterranean atria, while the Rotting is a plateau of towering rotten forests under perpetual fog. The main threat, the Splinter, advances when unobserved, freezes when stared at, and can break through walls or build and bridge its way toward the player; Ash-Roses can halt nearby Splinters but wilt over time. Some Splinter encounters can drag the player into the Grain, and the mod also features variants such as Log Splinters that mimic their surroundings. Time spent in the Backwoods drives four stages of mental degradation, beginning with whispers and progressing through silenced music, visual and sound disturbances, spreading rotten planks, and eventual displacement into Loss or the Grain. Survival and progression draw on materials and items such as Seep, Splinter Shards, Memory Shards, Pale Remedies, draughts, and effigies, which support recovery, crafting, and travel between realms. The mod’s visual atmosphere includes amber haze in the Backwoods, thick yellow fog in the Grain, and the ash-grey sky and drained terrain of Loss.

Adds 61 blocks, 108 items, 24 mobs, 26 biomes, 8 dimensions, 24 structures, 6 paintings, 89 recipes, 19 advancements, 13 loot tables and 62 sounds.
Counted from the names and data files in the mod, so the list may not be complete.
Keeps all of vanilla Minecraft's textures, models and sounds.
No harmful code found
We checked its files and read their code, without running it.
Why we show this: a mod runs on your computer like any program, so harmful code in it can take your accounts or files. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: malware means no grade, and a Warning in a latest file for a recent Minecraft version lowers it.
We found nothing it sends
We read its code without running it: it contacts no web address while you play.
Why we show this: a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
No sign so far that AI was used to make it
We looked for AI tools in its texts, files, images and sounds and found none.
We have not read its code history yet.
No sign of AI in the game
We found no AI service, AI library or AI model file in its code.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.

Modpacks that include Backwoods in at least one of their versions, most downloaded first.
Mods that modpacks often add together with Backwoods. Share: how many of the modpacks with Backwoods also have that mod.
The newest file for each Minecraft version and loader. The files for recent versions come first. Recent versions: those released in the last 2 years, plus 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, among the most played in modpacks.
In the last 2 years, 2 releases needed a quick fix: a new release within 3 days to fix a problem. This lowers the grade by 1 point.
