Hostile mobs gain new abilities and make survival much harder.

Brutal Nightmare is a configurable difficulty mod that makes hostile encounters more challenging by improving mob behavior and adding new abilities, while allowing players to toggle its features through an in-game menu. Hostile mobs detect and pursue players from farther away and move faster; jockeys appear more often, some mobs can turn transparent, and passive animals such as cows, chickens, and sheep fight back when attacked. Zombies and husks can build or break blocks to reach targets, throw TNT, and use items such as ender pearls or flint and steel, while skeletons can rain arrows down and switch between bows and swords depending on distance. Creepers may appear powered or disguised as farm animals, can explode through walls, and can shoot snowballs; spiders shoot webs, while Endermen can curse or teleport targets and summon a Nightmare Enderman to attack the cursed player. Other threats include drowned that pull or curse players toward the ocean, blazes that split when killed and can appear in the Overworld, parasitic silverfish, falling or fire-immune phantoms, slime that shoot slimeballs, ghasts that fire multiple projectiles, and randomly appearing illusioners. The mod also adds mini-boss encounters: a Master Witch can emerge and cast spells, while the Nightmare Vindicator appears as a statue that animates when players move nearby and can be frozen again by looking at its eyes or placing a torch beneath it. Additional changes include hostile mobs pursuing players across the ocean in boats, more frequent zombie and husk spawns, and a rule that prevents beds from skipping the night.
Written from Modrinth and CurseForge . How we write it
Does not change the game's code directly.
Adds no new blocks, items or other content.
Keeps all of vanilla Minecraft's textures, models and sounds.
No harmful code found
We checked its files and read their code, without running it.
Why we show this: a mod runs on your computer like any program, so harmful code in it can take your accounts or files. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: malware means no grade, and a Warning in a latest file for a recent Minecraft version lowers it.
brutal-nightmare-4.7.jar, CurseForge BrutalNightmare-v4.7_MOD.jar. 1 class only in the Modrinth file, in com.modrinth.OBTB2hmO: ModrinthWrapper (Modrinth only). We found nothing it sends about you
We read its code without running it: it contacts 1 web address while you play.
Like any connection, each address it contacts sees your IP address.
Why we show this: a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
No sign that AI was used to make it
We looked for AI tools in its texts, files, images and code history and found none.
No sign of AI in the game
We found no AI service, AI library or AI model file in its code.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.
