About
Valkyrien Sails is an addon for Valkyrien Skies that lets you build ships and propel them with changing world wind. A helm turns the ship’s rudder, while sails grouped in one-block-thick layouts generate thrust according to wind direction and whether they run parallel or perpendicular to the hull; you can douse and reset connected sails together. Square sails work best with the wind behind the ship, while fore-and-aft sails are more effective across the wind and can make progress closer to it; with the default realistic rudder behavior, sailing directly into the wind can leave a ship stuck until you tack or the wind shifts. Wind direction and speed vary over time, strengthen in rain and storms, and are shown by particles around a sailed ship; a Wind Flag also indicates the wind’s direction. Ship-handling and fitting blocks include Ballast for lowering the center of gravity, Buoys for adjusting buoyancy, and Magic Ballast for correcting a slight tilt, alongside climbable Rigging, a Redstone Helm that signals wheel angle, and placeable Rope that can toggle connected sails. You can assemble an isolated build into a ship using a Dedication Bottle, with a renamed bottle setting the ship’s slug; some blocks also have fireproof magma variants. The mod’s behavior is highly configurable, including an option to let the helm turn a stationary ship rather than relying on rudder force as it moves.
