Idle Tweaks reduces Minecraft's resource use while the game is in the background by limiting its frame rate and render distance when it is unfocused or tabbed out. It can also mute Minecraft's sounds in the background, and the game returns to normal when you switch back to it. Options are configurable through the mod's settings interface or command, depending on the version.
