About
Tough Beginnings makes early wood, stone, and tool progression more involved: instead of punching trees, players harvest gravel for Raw Flint, then bash it against a stone block to try to produce usable flint, with failures yielding shards that can be recombined into gravel. Usable flint can be made into a knife for gathering fiber from foliage; fiber rope then enables crafting a flint axe, which lets players obtain logs. To make wooden tools, players carve logs or planks into wood blocks with a knife, craft and place a pile of seven fiber, ignite it with a stick through friction, and toughen the blocks over the resulting fire; ordinary planks no longer serve as the tool material. Stone drops rocks rather than its block, and those rocks can be combined into the original block or used in recipes for stone tools, opening the stone age.
