About
Ancient Guns adds firearms inspired by the fifteenth through early nineteenth centuries, for combat and historical scenarios such as pirate boardings, Edo-era wars and the Napoleonic Wars. Weapons progress through three mechanism-based stages: matchlock weapons craftable from Overworld materials, flintlocks unlocked through Nether Fortress access, and caplocks made possible by reaching End cities. Each stage includes pistols, rifles and blunderbusses, alongside a distinctive weapon: the matchlock Hand Cannon fires an explosive projectile that can destroy terrain, the flintlock Pepperbox fires three shots, and the caplock Double Barrel Shotgun is a later-stage option. The arsenal also includes named weapons such as the Tanzutsu, Arquebus, muskets, a Caplock Rifle and matchlock, flintlock and caplock blunderbusses. Firing requires a multi-step crafting reload using gunpowder, a ramrod and ammunition; matchlocks also need a torch and string, while caplocks need a cap. Most guns can become wet and unusable in rain or water, and can be dried with a dry sponge or heat; caplock weapons are the exception and do not get wet. Weapon durability is represented by a chance of breaking after each shot, with the chance varying by mechanism stage.
