    About

    Small Ships adds medieval-inspired, rideable vessels for exploration, cargo transport, and naval combat, built at a Dockyard beside sufficiently deep and wide water. Its seven ships include the Cog and Brigg trade ships, the oared Galley and Viking-style Drakkar, the Caravel that can sail against the wind, the cargo-friendly Dhow, and the large, heavily armed Galleon. Choose from nine wood types for a ship’s appearance, then use the Dockyard to repair or upgrade it, mount cannons, and customize its name, sail color, and banners; the Drakkar can also carry shields. Sailing responds to changing wind direction and strength, with distinct wind profiles for each vessel; water temperature, cargo, and mounted cannons can also affect speed. Players steer from the helm, adjust or close the sails, and, on the Galley and Drakkar, row independently of the wind; passengers can take seats around the ship, man cannons, and bring mobs aboard. Cannons can be aimed from the helm or by a seated gunner, with cannonballs, chained shot for sails, and grape shot for crew; a Ship Cannon can also be operated on land. Ships can ram one another, take hull and sail damage, and sink with a visible animation, while iron, planks, string, and the Dockyard provide ways to repair damage before a vessel is lost. Walkable decks, ship storage accessible to hoppers, and the ability to leash a vessel for towing or mooring add practical uses beyond sailing and combat. Dockyard recipes and ship attributes can be configured, and datapacks can change build recipes while addon mods can register additional ships.
