About
Alfheim replaces Minecraft’s lighting engine, continuing the work of Hesperus and Phosphor with a focus on performance, bug fixes, and compatibility. It reduces redundant lighting calculations by deduplicating updates, uses less memory, and improves client performance by reducing lighting-related block updates and limiting how much lighting work is processed each frame. Unlike its predecessors, Alfheim does not force lighting updates before every frame and pauses lighting processing while the game is paused. It also fixes vanilla lighting issues, including MC-92, MC-50734, MC-80966, MC-95515, MC-104532, and MC-249343. When a fundamental incompatibility occurs, it aims to report the issue with a warning rather than failing with little information.
