    About

    Darker Depths expands underground exploration with three overworld cave biomes: the Glowshroom Forest, Sandy Catacombs, and Molten Cavern. The Glowshroom Forest features clusters of glowshrooms, ceiling-hanging Glimmering Vines, Glowspurs, and the aggressive Glowshroom Monster; its Glowshroom Cap provides light and Haste when worn. The Sandy Catacombs are a barren cave landscape of petrified roots, Aridrock, Duskrock, and boulders, with amber clusters and naturally growing amber-bearing roots. Their Catacombs structure contains treasure rooms guarded by dormant Void Soul Knights, Tombs holding Forsaken Bronze scrap, and a central Paranoia Altar, while Body Snatchers prowl the biome and inflict Paranoia when they attack. When Void Soul creatures are killed, they become invulnerable orbs that expire after 60 seconds; players can bottle them in jars or use Amber to keep them from expiring. Void Souls and Forsaken Bronze support distinctive equipment and mechanics, including the dashing Stiletto and a Death Anchor that returns a bound player to its location after death, at the cost of consuming the anchor’s charge and imposing a brief fatal Soul Binding effect. The Molten Cavern has layered lava pools, heat-sensitive Darkslate, Magma and Tuff formations, geysers that burst to launch nearby entities, and the long-range Scorcher, whose fiery gaze becomes more dangerous while it can see its target. In this biome, players can revive Crystal Husks with diamonds and let Living Crystals spread into nearby diamond ore or grow through melons into Crystal Melons; a Crystal Melon held in the offhand makes tools unbreakable and boosts attack speed, mining speed, and damage for five minutes, with the bonuses configurable. Across the underground, rope can be extended downward like inverse scaffolding, while Rope Mines and Petrified Mineshafts offer additional generated structures to explore.
