About
Prion Infection: Whispers From Within is a survival-horror mod inspired by prion disease and vCJD, set in a world where a nuclear war exposes radioactive eka-francium and turns ordinary proteins into an escalating infection. Its infection phase rises as infected evolve, fuse, spread infection, and spawn others, while killing infected lowers the phase; rising danger brings stronger mutations and can eventually cause animals and humans to spawn infected. The outbreak begins with Deathworms, which flee and can evolve over time into more dangerous entities, while other infected may evolve after kills or fuse with specific entities to form stronger creatures combining their traits. Hives spread roots into nearby blocks, which gradually become living blocks, and defender infected protect that territory using points generated by nearby kills. Infected can coordinate in hordes, enrage to become faster and stronger, and starve when food is scarce, potentially turning to aggression and cannibalism; intelligent human infected can parkour, avoid traps, and search where a target was last seen. The infection also affects victims through worsening symptoms, from weakness and shaking to severe breathing difficulty and possible death; infected entities may leave an egg or failed variant when they die, and some can spawn weaker infected or roots on death. Players must contend with armor-bypassing noxious gas, traps, and groups of infected, but can use fire, which increases damage to infected, and craft cyborgs to help fight them. A vile entity can crawl inside an infected animal or human and emerge as a lacerator, an effect reflected in the mod’s name.
