TREPIDATION turns Minecraft into a story-driven horror action roguelite in which each timed run begins in the Nether and challenges you to climb through stacked dimensions to reach the End and defeat the Ender Dragon before time runs out. The route leads through the Nether, Erebus, the Mind’s Abyss, and the Surface before the End, with each realm offering its own barriers, progression, enemies, challenges, and bosses. Fast-paced combat and traversal center on dashes, double jumps, and wall climbs, alongside weapons with distinct abilities, agility-focused trinkets, gear set bonuses, and a large perk and skill tree. Enemies use enhanced AI that can break blocks, build upward, dodge, lunge, and use special abilities, making each ascent a demanding fight as well as a race. Runs gradually reveal a cosmic tragedy through memories of another Runner, Elara, journal entries, buried fortresses, and artifacts tied to a force that has warped the world. The horror blends cosmic, psychological, and paranormal themes with unsettling sound, music, visuals, and creatures; the Mind’s Abyss includes jumpscares, and the pack also features gore and decapitation. Deaths feed into the roguelite loop as players learn the route and its dangers, while community competitions and challenges invite runners to pursue faster times and try combat, speed, and unconventional strategies.
Written from CurseForge . How we write it
The mods of its newest release (Minecraft 1.12.2 · Forge, 23 Jun 2026). Each check result is for the latest files of that mod, which may not be the version in this pack.
Compared with the release of 30 May 2026 for the same platform, Minecraft version and loader. Same mods in both. We do not compare the versions of the mods yet.
No harmful code found in the projects we checked
We checked 231 of its 232 projects and the files in the pack itself, without running them.
Why we show this: a modpack installs the files of its mods, and each mod runs on your computer like any program. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: a modpack has no grade of its own, and each mod's result counts in that mod's grade.
7 mods send something about you
We read the code of 220 of its 221 mods, without running it.
Why we show this: a modpack runs the code of its mods, and a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
AI used in 4 of the 114 mods we checked
We found an AI tool in them, or their authors declared AI content.
107 mods are not checked yet.
No sign so far that AI was used to make the pack itself
We looked for AI tools in its texts and found none.
We have not read its files, images and code history yet.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.
