    About

    Critters and Companions is a vanilla-style creature and pet mod that populates the Overworld with animals to encounter, tame, and interact with. Its wildlife ranges from river and ocean creatures such as otters, koi fish, dumbo octopuses, and sea bunnies to forest and biome-dwelling animals including ferrets, red pandas, shima enaga, jumping spiders, and stag beetles. Their behaviors give the animals distinct roles: otters open clams for pearls, ferrets can hunt and dig for loot, groups of koi bring luck, dumbo octopuses help drowning players with a bubble helmet, and red pandas scare away many aggressive neutral mobs. Many creatures can be tamed, and some provide useful materials or support, such as snail slime for resistance potions, ladybugs that heal nearby pets, and jumping-spider silk for crafting a leash and grappling hook. Other details add character, from leaf insects that dance to music to acorn weevils that throw dirt at enemies and roly-polies that can carry a chest.
