Vampires Strike Back is a gothic roguelike modpack that reshapes Minecraft into a fight for survival and progression against increasingly dangerous Illagers, with the goal of reaching the End before you run out of lives. Choose a Vampire who can dash, fly, and ground-pound, a Hunter with a whip and quick reflexes, a Werewolf with leaps and knockback howls, or a Wanderer; the first three origins face an Illager-dominated surface while ordinary monsters are mostly underground. Illager kills raise your reputation and bring stronger troops into the world, while abundant Illager structures offer targets to explore and loot. Survival hinges on a deliberately tight inventory that starts at nine slots and can be expanded with Limitite, scarce health that makes Heart Crystals valuable, and a ten-life limit; deaths relocate you, while a Spectral Servant lets you buy back recovered items using Emeralds from earlier lives. Combat rewards planning: enemies notice you only within line of sight, backstabs deal extra damage, and shields support parrying; weapons include parrying swords, throwable axes, shove-chaining shovels, air-combo tridents, and experimental options such as Charkrams, Katanas, Cleavers, and Hammers. Spells and summons add further tactics, from distracting enemies with summoned bees to attacking with a Flamethrower, while Illager drops can also provide trinkets with special abilities. The pack adds custom content such as reimagined Minecells Grenadiers and Shieldbearers, humanised Ghast and Blaze designs, altered versions of Cataclysm's Prowler and Species' Bewearager, and a Vampire tutorial dungeon; its configured Complementary and Euphoria shaders provide a distinctive look, with a lighter Mellow Shaders setup as an alternative. It supports cooperative play and Vampire-versus-Hunter sessions for groups, with Vampires able to see other players' locations in multiplayer while Hunters and Wanderers cannot.
Written from CurseForge . How we write it
The mods of its newest release (Minecraft 1.20.1 · Forge, 9 Sep 2026). Each check result is for the latest files of that mod, which may not be the version in this pack.
Compared with the release of 9 Aug 2026 for the same platform, Minecraft version and loader. We do not compare the versions of the projects yet.
No harmful code found in its projects
We checked all 212 projects and the files in the pack itself, without running them.
Why we show this: a modpack installs the files of its mods, and each mod runs on your computer like any program. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: a modpack has no grade of its own, and each mod's result counts in that mod's grade.
7 mods send something about you
We read the code of 195 of its 197 mods, without running it.
Why we show this: a modpack runs the code of its mods, and a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
AI used in 11 of the 170 mods we checked
We found an AI tool in them, or their authors declared AI content.
27 mods are not checked yet.
Made with AI: not checked yet
We have not looked for AI tools in the pack itself yet.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.
