About
Vanilla Degus adds tamable degu companions designed to fit in with vanilla wildlife, spawning naturally in deserts, savannas, badlands, meadows, and stony peaks. They come in agouti, blue, sand, agoutipied, black, and white coats, with black and white variants appearing only in certain biomes; babies have a dedicated model and can be kept from growing with a Golden Dandelion. Degus avoid fighting, show interest in rabbits and cows, shy away from wild wolves and cats, and sometimes eat wild grass or dead bushes. Players can tame them with grass, dry grass, or dead bush, feed them their staple plants, and breed tamed degus at full health; tamed animals wear a red collar. Their care includes personality traits: frequent rich treats such as sweets, cakes, seeds, or grains can make them obese, while regular feeding and time with their owner build happiness that falls if the owner attacks them. A sufficiently happy degu can grant its owner Degu's Grace, which lets players eat grass, dry grass, and dead bushes directly or break them to restore hunger. Degus can also dance when a jukebox plays, and their appearance rate can be adjusted through a spawn configuration file. They can carry food, paper, and items taken from nearby mobs, then bury them in sand, red sand, or gravel and reuse remembered stash sites; burying items changes the ground into excavated blocks with four storage slots, which release their contents when broken. Sand bathing improves cleanliness, which affects happiness near an owner and the conditions for Degu's Grace, while hungry degus seek out dropped food and tamed ones can sit to eat food offered by players.
