A challenging medieval adventure where you can be reborn as a dragon.
Modpacks get no grade of their own, so we show the grades of its mods. Of its 273 graded mods, 182 are graded A or B, 59 C and 32 D to F. Its newest release is for Minecraft 1.19.2. See the mods
Play as Dragon: Gothic Edition is a challenging medieval fantasy modpack that reshapes Minecraft into a long survival adventure inspired by Gothic, with players able to choose human play or become a dragon. Its world features hostile Gothic creatures and predators on the surface, undead in caves and dungeons, and a wilder ecosystem where domesticated animals are generally found in villages rather than roaming freely. Survival is deliberately demanding at first, with gradual progression, dangerous early exploration, tougher bosses, and dungeon spawners that cannot be dealt with by simply placing torches or breaking them. Dragon characters begin without wings and must travel to the End to earn flight, while humans can also play through the pack’s reworked survival experience. More than 300 quests guide players through topics including travel, hunting and fishing, tutorials, construction, and dragon survival, offering lore, explanations of the mods, and optional rewards. Hunting has its own skill system: books teach players to skin animals and collect trophies such as claws and fangs, which can be exchanged with merchants or used to earn the pack’s Magic Ore currency. Magic Ore also serves as a crafting and upgrade resource for armor and items, while treasure and travel are emphasized over routine mining and resource farming. Other survival changes include timed torches that must be relit with matches, revised villager and trader economies, restricted access to other dimensions through a compass and artifacts, and a different approach to Mending and powerful gear. The pack includes more than 250 balanced mods, extensive custom textures, datapacks and configs, and optional built-in shaders; many recipes and parts of Create are changed to fit its medieval setting.
Written from CurseForge . How we write it
The mods of its newest release (Minecraft 1.19.2 · Forge, 18 May 2024). Each check result is for the latest files of that mod, which may not be the version in this pack.
Compared with the release of 9 May 2024 for the same platform, Minecraft version and loader. We do not compare the versions of the mods yet.
No harmful code found in the projects we checked
We checked 268 of its 282 projects, without running them.
We have not checked the files in the pack itself yet (settings, scripts).
Why we show this: a modpack installs the files of its mods, and each mod runs on your computer like any program. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: a modpack has no grade of its own, and each mod's result counts in that mod's grade.
7 mods send something about you
We read the code of 252 of its 263 mods, without running it.
Why we show this: a modpack runs the code of its mods, and a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
No sign that AI was used to make its mods
We found no AI use from before this release (18 May 2024) in the 205 mods we checked.
17 mods show AI use only from after it, so it does not apply to the versions in this pack.
58 mods are not checked yet.
Made with AI: not checked yet
We have not looked for AI tools in the pack itself yet.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.
