    About

    BetterNether expands the Nether with new biomes, plants, materials, mobs, structures, and building blocks, including variants of familiar vanilla blocks. Its additions include the challenging Naga, dark creature-occupied dungeons, and large, rare Nether Cities, alongside many other structures and Nether mobs. New materials, recipes, food, tools, and items support survival and building, and some materials can be gathered through plant and mob farms. The Gloomwood biome brings Sculk into the Nether, with a new tree, regrowable fuel, and plants that drop experience when tickled. A vertical and volumetric biome system supports other mods and datapacks, while configuration options let players control the presence of blocks, items, structures, and biomes, as well as plant density. The mod also adds Nether-specific obsidian and portal mechanics: water applied to a lava source above Soulsand or Soulstone creates blue obsidian, lightning rods charge obsidian into crying or weeping obsidian, Nether pickaxes mine obsidian faster, and full obsidian-related blocks can serve as portal frames for freeform portals.
