Backrooms: Found Footage is a multiplayer horror-survival modpack built around exploring the Backrooms with friends, where disorienting spaces, unsettling sounds, sudden events, and hostile anomalies create a tense, unpredictable journey. Players enter by suffocating under sand or gravel, then navigate procedurally generated levels where exits are often found through exploration rather than a straightforward route. The environments range from Level 0’s seemingly endless yellow-walled corridors and flickering fluorescents to Level 1’s foggy concrete parking garage, Level 2’s stark pipe-lined tunnel, and the tiled, water-filled chambers of the Poolrooms. The journey also includes the Infinite Field, a sprawling grassland marked by weathered power poles and distant concrete structures; the flashlight works there, unlike in the moisture-soaked Poolrooms. Across these levels, random ambience, lighting blackouts and flickers, and spatial distortions can disrupt navigation, while Smilers stalk players in darkness and the Skinwalker can imitate a player’s appearance, voice, and movements. Survival depends on managing limited resources as well as the environment: crates in Levels 0 and 1 can contain Backshrooms or canned food, while the Poolrooms’ water becomes mildly acidic around dawn and dusk. The pack is designed for multiplayer exploration and supports play on dedicated servers.
Written from CurseForge . How we write it
The mods of its newest release (Minecraft 1.20.1 · Fabric, 28 Sep 2025). Each check result is for the latest files of that mod, which may not be the version in this pack.
2 files not listed: no matching project found.
Compared with the release of 10 Jun 2025 for the same platform, Minecraft version and loader. We do not compare the versions of the projects yet.
No harmful code found in its projects
We checked all 77 projects and the files in the pack itself, without running them.
Why we show this: a modpack installs the files of its mods, and each mod runs on your computer like any program. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: a modpack has no grade of its own, and each mod's result counts in that mod's grade.
7 mods send something about you
We read the code of all 74 of its mods, without running it.
Why we show this: a modpack runs the code of its mods, and a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
AI used in 6 of the 72 mods we checked
We found an AI tool in them, or their authors declared AI content.
2 mods are not checked yet.
No sign so far that AI was used to make the pack itself
We looked for AI tools in its description and code history and found none.
We have not read its changelogs, files and images yet.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.
