A melee combat system with new attacks and weapon animations.

Better Combat reworks Minecraft’s melee system to bring it closer to the combat experience of Minecraft Dungeons, with weapon swings, timing, and animations central to how attacks work. It provides one- and two-handed attack animations, natural-looking wind-ups before hits, and weapon-specific combos whose moves can vary in damage, hitbox, animation, and sound. Its weapon collision detection lets players hit targets in the swing’s path without precise cursor aiming, including while playing in third person, and a single strike can hit multiple enemies. Players can dual-wield any combination of one-handed weapons, alternating attacks between hands, while weapons marked as two-handed disable the offhand slot. Holding the attack control repeats attacks when they are off cooldown, and configurable options include swinging through grass and preventing weapons from mining blocks with zero hardness. Sweeping attacks deal reduced damage to multiple targets unless the player has the Sweeping Edge enchantment, which enables full weapon damage against each target. The mod includes weapon animation, sound, and attribute presets, and automatically assigns a matching preset to many modded weapons that lack their own weapon data. Mod developers and datapack creators can add weapon behavior through JSON data files, reusing or extending presets or defining properties such as attack range, combos, animations, and sounds. Dedicated compatibility is listed for weapons from projects including MC Dungeons Weapons, MCDoom, MedievalWeapons, Mythic Metals, and Simply Swords.

Counted from the names and data files in the mod, so the list may not be complete.
Keeps all of vanilla Minecraft's textures, models and sounds.
No harmful code found
We checked its files and read their code, without running it.
Why we show this: a mod runs on your computer like any program, so harmful code in it can take your accounts or files. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: malware means no grade, and a Warning in a latest file for a recent Minecraft version lowers it.
We found nothing it sends
We read its code without running it: it contacts no web address while you play.
Why we show this: a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
No sign that AI was used to make it
We looked for AI tools in its texts, files, images, sounds and code history and found none.
No sign of AI in the game
We found no AI service, AI library or AI model file in its code.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.

These projects do not work together with Better Combat: their authors or Better Combat's author say so. If you install both, the game can crash or some features can stop working. Some of them do the same job as Better Combat, so you only need one.

Mods that modpacks often add together with Better Combat. Share: how many of the modpacks with Better Combat also have that mod.
The newest file for each Minecraft version and loader. The files for recent versions come first. Recent versions: those released in the last 2 years, plus 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, among the most played in modpacks.
In the last 2 years, 5 releases needed a quick fix: a new release within 3 days to fix a problem. This lowers the grade by 2 points.
