    About

    Starlight replaces Minecraft’s vanilla lighting engine to improve lighting performance and address lighting errors, with its design originally aimed at higher-scale dedicated servers where lighting could slow chunk generation and updates. The rewrite targets lighting work during chunk generation, block edits at high elevations, and ordinary block-light changes such as placing or breaking a light source. Its light-section management ties lighting data to existing chunks, helping prevent bugs and performance problems caused by missing light sections; this approach also supports parallel lighting and chunk work in server systems built to scale.
