A survival horror pack with frightening creatures and eerie nights.
Modpacks get no grade of their own, so we show the grades of its mods. Of its 154 graded mods, 122 are graded A or B, 27 C and 5 D to F. Its last update came out 2 weeks ago, for Minecraft 1.20.1. See the mods
Inside the Darkness is a survival-horror modpack focused on paranoia, exploration, and surviving unsettling encounters while gathering supplies and building a shelter. Its threats include Herobrine, Slenderman, the Cave Dweller, the Knocker, the Man from the Fog, the Pale Hound, the Anomaly, the Midnight Lurker, and The One Who Watches, whose different stalking behaviors make quiet exploration feel unsafe. The world combines refreshed vanilla biomes and varied terrain with underground locations such as YUNG’s Better Dungeons, Better Mineshafts, Better Strongholds, and Better Caves. Survival is supported by cooking and shelter-protection tools, including Cooking for Blockheads and SecurityCraft. Ambient sounds, echoing caves, detailed footsteps, seasonal changes, wind-driven rain and snow, and eight dark ambient gameplay tracks build the atmosphere. Players can choose optional shaders for a darker horror look or a more natural style, and can also enable the optional Patrix 32x texture pack for more realistic textures, though it can be demanding when used with shaders. The pack supports solo or multiplayer play, including proximity voice chat, and includes rendering and memory optimizations to improve performance.
Written from Modrinth . How we write it
The mods of its newest release (Minecraft 1.20.1 · Forge, 11 Oct 2026). Each check result is for the latest files of that mod, which may not be the version in this pack.
1 file not listed: no matching project found.
Compared with the release of 21 Apr 2025 for the same platform, Minecraft version and loader. We do not compare the versions of the projects yet.
No harmful code found in its projects
We checked all 156 projects and the files in the pack itself, without running them.
Why we show this: a modpack installs the files of its mods, and each mod runs on your computer like any program. Our checks look for known signs of harm. They cannot prove that a file is harmless. In the grade: a modpack has no grade of its own, and each mod's result counts in that mod's grade.
7 mods send something about you
We read the code of all 146 of its mods, without running it.
Why we show this: a modpack runs the code of its mods, and a mod can send things about you over the internet, like your player name or your login. Contacting an address to check for updates or download files sends nothing about you. Not in the grade: sending data can be normal for what a mod does.
AI named in 5 of the 146 mods we checked
We found an AI tool named in them, or their authors declare AI content.
4 other mods show AI use only from after this release (11 Oct 2026), so it does not apply to the versions in this pack.
The author declares AI code, assets and text on Modrinth
We looked for AI tools in its texts and found none.
We have not read its files and images yet.
Why we show this: some players and servers avoid projects made with AI, and AI in the game can send what you write to an online service. Not in the grade: using AI does not tell whether a project works well or is kept up to date.
